Alexander Ekstrand

Software developer

  • Göteborg

Alexander is a versatile and creative software developer with deep technical expertise and over ten years of experience as a consultant in both small and large organizations. He is particularly passionate about modern backend development and places great emphasis on clean and well-structured code (Clean Code), test-driven development (TDD), and high performance. For Alexander, collaboration with engaged, curious, and inspiring colleagues is just as important as the technical solution itself.

With a strong drive for continuous improvement, he actively seeks new knowledge and inspiration through meetups, conferences, and industry forums. His greatest strength is the ability to work effectively in teams and foster a positive, inclusive work environment where every team member feels valued and thrives. Alexander is convinced that this is a crucial prerequisite for creating systems, services, and products that truly make a difference.

    juni 2022 – nu

    Systemutvecklare Gothenburg

Alexander has contributed to Lindex through several key development efforts in e-commerce. Among other things, he designed an innovative solution for registering and selling second-hand garments, both in physical stores and online. In addition, he developed a new digital return flow on the Lindex website, making it easier for customers to register returns for e-commerce orders themselves.

Furthermore, Alexander, together with another developer, enabled the automation of sales on external marketplaces such as Zalando.

  • Volvo Car Retail Solutions

    juni 2019 – juni 2022

    Systemutvecklare Gothenburg

Volvo dealerships in Sweden and Norway aim to offer digital flows for their customers, enabling them to easily book services, wheel changes, and glass replacements directly via the dealerships' websites. The goal is to replace the manual process where customers traditionally call technicians to book appointments.

Alexander worked as a backend developer, although he also had responsibility for various frontend modules. His primary assignment was to transform an extensive monolith built in .NET Framework into smaller, manageable microservices. The work involved extracting services into separate domains instead of gathering everything in a single solution. In addition, Alexander was responsible for establishing CI/CD pipelines in multiple repositories to automate and streamline the updating of the various environments.

The result of this effort has now materialized in three separate booking flows (service, wheel change, and glass replacement), enabling customers to book workshop visits via Volvo dealership websites in Sweden and Norway. This digital solution has saved dealerships thousands of working hours, as workshop technicians can now focus on their work. Customer bookings are automatically registered in their calendars, eliminating the need to interrupt work to take calls and manually create bookings. With thousands of bookings daily, Volvo dealerships have not only saved millions of kronor but have also improved and streamlined the booking process, which is now available around the clock instead of only during working hours.

  • Volvo Cars

    jan. 2018 – maj 2019

    Systemutvecklare Gothenburg

Volvo Cars wanted to digitize the manual process used to enter service contracts for cars from Excel documents into a service. The purpose was to reduce personnel costs, simplify contract administration, and also enable exposing the contracts to other services.

Alexander was responsible, together with another developer, for eliminating the dependency on Service Fabric and instead using newer technology such as .NET Core. This was done to enable hosting the service in Kubernetes. During the project, the entire former "monolithic service" was rebuilt into two smaller microservices, along with a user-friendly administration interface.

Now Volvo can automatically integrate new service contracts into the service without any manual handling. The service also provides an overview of active and inactive contracts, as well as the ability to administer specific agreements as needed. Finally, the solution also enables exposing data to other services that base their functionality on whether cars have service contracts or not.

  • Volvo trucks

    juni 2017 – dec. 2017

    Fullstackutvecklare Gothenburg

Volvo Trucks planned to develop a customer portal for their clients, with the purpose of simplifying the management of their vehicle fleets. The portal would give fleet owners the ability to monitor when trucks, passenger cars, trailers, and other vehicles needed service, as well as keep track of mileage and other important information.

Alexander worked as a full-stack developer on this team and performed a variety of tasks, from database migrations to user interface improvements.

During Alexander's time on the team, Volvo Trucks customers gained an improved overview of their fleets. Unfortunately, the product was only launched for a limited number of pilot customers before Alexander concluded his involvement to take on a new assignment.

    jan. 2016 – maj 2017

    Systemutvecklare Gothenburg

Sigma's in-house department planned to create a dedicated portal for their customers, where they could report incidents, issues, or requests regarding the products that MyTeam had developed for them. The purpose of the portal was to facilitate tracking and follow-up as well as improve communication with customers.

Alexander worked as a full-stack developer but had a particular responsibility for establishing relationships between data models to build a solid database structure. In addition to this responsibility, he also contributed to developing logic and implementing UI changes in the frontend.

The MyTeam portal resulted in happier customers, who experienced better assistance with handling bugs and answering questions. The portal also led to an increase in customer requests, which in turn contributed to increased sales. Additionally, the portal gave MyTeam employees an easier overview of which customers needed help, compared to the previous process where customers sent emails directly to specific employees at the department.

    jan. 2016 – juni 2017

    Systemutvecklare Gothenburg

FläktGroup (Fläktwoods) wanted to offer their salespeople the ability to perform calculations using a tool when visiting customers. The purpose was to quickly and conveniently provide customers with data on efficiency, costs, and savings when installing their industrial fans.

Alexander was responsible for the user interface and for converting certain calculations from Excel documents to C++ code.

Together with another developer, Alexander delivered a tool for FläktGroup (Fläktwoods) salespeople that makes it easy to calculate efficiency, costs, and savings for customers installing their industrial fans. This has led to a simplified and streamlined sales process, resulting in more deals and less effort required to sell fans compared to before.
